Jalapeno Lime Turkey Burger
I found this recipe on The Organic Kitchen blog, and it came out perfect, one of those recipes that must be shared! It is simple, tasty, and healthy, my three favorite little words 😆
The recipe called for topping the burger with guacamole (another favorite), and maybe even adding a poached egg to the top? That I have not tried yet, but if it appeals to you, go for it!
And now a word about the jalapeno’s . . . do not be afraid. This is just enough to add a bit of flavor. If you are not a fan of hot flavors (which I am not) you can adjust the amount of jalapeno, but if you get all the seeds out prior to slicing and mincing, you may find it’s not so bad 😀. Slice the jalapeno very thin, and then mince into tiny pieces.
INGREDIENTS -
1 pound ground turkey, organic would be best
1/2 jalapeno, minced (approximately 1 Tbsp)
1 medium shallot, minced (approximately 1/3 cup)
One lime, juiced and zested
2 Tbsp chopped cilantro
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 Tbsp olive oil
For topping - guacamole, pico de gallo, cilantro
Drain any extra liquid off of the ground turkey. Place the turkey meat and all of the ingredients, except olive oil and toppings, into a bowl and mix well, hands on works best. Form into four patties. Add 2 Tbsp olive oil to fry pan and heat to medium high, cast iron works really great for this. When the pan is hot, cook patties for about 5 minutes on each side or until cooked through. Plate over a bed of greens and add your toppings.
This recipe is also a great idea to add to your freezer meals. Double up the recipe (or even more) prepare the patties, wrap them up individually in saran wrap (tightly), then place in a large freezer bag. What an easy simple meal to have on hand for one of those days! Enjoy!
