Burger In A Bowl

How about a Burger in a Bowl? If you follow my posts, you know that I think anything in a bowl is the best! It can be a terrific meal, but if you put it in a bowl, it can get even better!

I’d seen several photos and recipe ideas for burger bowls and decided to set about trying it for myself. After a couple of attempts, I found that this meal can be as simple as you want it to be, or it can be a little more time consuming if you want to include every ingredient to your liking. For example, the addition of sauteed or grilled mushrooms and onions is excellent!! But it is an additional step that takes extra time, so if your schedule doesn’t allow for that, maybe just include some sliced mushrooms and onions on those busy nights. For me, I didn’t care, I had lots of time to prepare these meals, but I always want to pass along time saving steps because I remember those busy days of working, kids homework, etc!

So I am passing along this recipe idea with basically just a list of options - you can start with the lettuce and burger and have a “plain burger bowl” 😆, or add all of the options and enjoy a “deluxe” or “loaded” burger bowl”!

One part I would recommend you not skip is the “cheesy” sauce. This recipe is from Paleo Running Momma and it is super good! Yes it is one more step but it makes the flavor of the whole burger bowl meld together.

“Cheesy” Ranch Sauce -

2/3 cup homemade mayonnaise or Whole30 mayonnaise
1 Tbsp coconut or almond milk
2 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp nutritional yeast (cheesy flavor)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp dried chives
1/4 tsp sea salt

Ok, now that I’ve told you the last ingredient, the cheesy ranch sauce to drizzle on top, let’s start at the bottom of the bowl and start adding options to create your own burger bowl.

  • LETTUCE - of course, it’s a bowl! I had some fresh butter lettuce from my local CSA farm, it added it’s own pop of flavor for the bowl! Use your favorite lettuce, one that is on the crisper side seems to fit this meal best.

  • HAMBURGER - second essential ingredient. Try for grass fed organic to keep this simple meal healthy. Crumble the beef into your heated fry pan, add a drizzle of oil if your beef is a lower percentage of fat. Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste and cook until done.

  • SAUTEED ONIONS - this time of year is sweet onion season for me. Slice an onion up and stir fry until it is limp and translucent.

  • SAUTEED MUSHROOMS - Slice and stir fry, add a little pepper and garlic salt. If you are doing both onions and mushrooms, these can be prepared together.

  • BACON - Slice 4 pieces of bacon into one inch pieces and stir fry until crisp. If you include the bacon in your burger bowl, cook that first, and then cook your hamburger in the same pan. Yum!

  • PICKLES - Sliced into bite size pieces

  • CHERRY TOMATOES - Slice in half

  • AVOCADO - Cut into bite size chunks or slice longwise.

  • ONION - Very thin sliced red or sweet onion for topping.

  • CHEESY SAUCE - Whisk together the ingredients and drizzle over the top of your bowl.

That’s it that’s all, simple, healthy, tasty, and cheesy 😃 Enjoy!
